Media release from AAA – The Auto Club Group:
ATLANTA (May 11, 2026) Gas prices in Georgia remain high, continuing to put pressure on drivers already dealing with rising costs in other areas. The average price for regular gas statewide is now $4.05 per gallon (subject to change overnight), leaving little relief at the pump. That price is just 44 cents below Georgia’s record high of $4.49, set in June 2022. With prices staying elevated, many drivers are feeling uncertain about how much more they may have to pay. To help stretch their budgets, drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, compare prices between stations, and use fuel-saving habits to reduce costs.
“Gas prices are staying high, and that’s making it harder for drivers to keep up,” said Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “With ongoing global issues affecting oil supply, we’re not seeing much relief right now. Drivers should continue looking for ways to save, like shopping around for cheaper gas and cutting back on unnecessary trips.”
Compared to recent benchmarks:
- 20 cents higher than last week
- 32 cents higher than last month
- $1.16 higher than this time last year
For those filling up a standard 15-gallon tank of regular gasoline, the cost is approximately $60.75.
Fuel Costs Continue to Rise Nationwide, Outlook Unclear
Gas prices across the country remain high, with the national average for a gallon of regular gas rising 8 cents to $4.52. Ongoing global tensions are keeping oil prices elevated, and those costs continue to pass through to drivers at the pump. With Memorial Day and the busy summer travel season approaching, drivers should plan ahead and budget higher fuel costs. As conditions remain uncertain, price relief is not guaranteed in the near term.
Electric:
The national average per kilowatt hour of electricity at a public EV charging station went up by one cent this past week to 41 cents. Drivers can plan ahead by checking prices along their route with AAA’s TripTik Travel Planner.
Regional Prices:
The most expensive metro markets in Georgia are Athens ($4.15), Atlanta ($4.14), and Gainesville ($4.12).
The least expensive metro markets in Georgia are Augusta-Aiken ($3.85), Albany ($3.81), and Hinesville-Fort Stewart ($3.78).
