Media release from AAA – The Auto Club Group:
ATLANTA (May 25, 2026) As Memorial Day weekend comes to a close, thousands of Georgia drivers are preparing to hit the road and head home, while gas prices remain steady and continue to put pressure on travel budgets. Heavy traffic is expected on major roadways, so AAA is urging drivers to plan ahead before starting their return trips. Checking gas prices along your route, leaving early to avoid delays, and making smart travel decisions can all help save time and money.
“Right now, the statewide average for regular gas is $3.99 a gallon, which is still about 50 cents below Georgia’s record high we saw in 2022,” said Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “Even though prices are holding steady, they’re still high enough that planning ahead can really make a difference for drivers heading home.”
Compared to recent benchmarks:
- 1 cent lower than last week
- 41 cents higher than last month
- $1.07 higher than this time last year
For those filling up a standard 15-gallon tank of regular gasoline, the cost is approximately $59.85.
Gas Prices Hold Steady Nationwide
Gas prices remain elevated as Memorial Day travel wraps up, hitting a four-year high. The national average is $4.51 a gallon, unchanged from last week and $1.33 higher than a year ago. With demand rising and global supply concerns lingering, prices are expected to stay high as the summer travel season begins.
Electric:
The national average per kilowatt hour of electricity at a public EV charging station remained the same this past week at 41 cents. Drivers can plan ahead by checking prices along their route with AAA’s TripTik Travel Planner.
Regional Prices:
