Rome High School Athletic Director Chris Boden has been named the Region 5-5A Athletic Director of the Year by the Georgia High School Association.
Boden was selected for the honor by his fellow athletic directors across Region 5-5A, recognizing his leadership, service, and commitment to supporting student-athletes and athletic programs throughout the 2025-2026 school year.
The award recognizes athletic directors who demonstrate excellence in managing athletic programs, supporting regional competition, and helping coordinate the many administrative responsibilities that come with modern high school athletics.
“Coach Boden has done an outstanding job leading our athletic programs and creating opportunities for student-athletes to succeed both on and off the field,” Retiring Rome High School Principal Parke Wilkinson said. “This recognition reflects the tremendous amount of work he puts in behind the scenes to support our coaches, students, and families while helping move our athletic programs forward.”
Under Boden’s leadership, Rome High School enjoyed another successful year across multiple sports. The Wolves saw several programs have great years, including football, boys and girls soccer, girls cross country, boys and girls tennis, and more. All of these programs placed among the top in Region 5-5A and competed in the state playoffs. He also helped oversee the creation and first year of the Rome high’s flag football team which had a phenomenal first year, including a run to the second round of the state playoffs.
As athletic director, Boden oversees all aspects of Rome High School athletics, including scheduling, facilities, event management, compliance, budgeting, and support for coaches and student-athletes. He also serves as Rome High School’s representative in regional and state athletic matters.
“I am truly honored to be selected as the Region 5-5A Athletic Director of the Year,” Boden said. “This recognition is really a reflection of the outstanding student-athletes, dedicated coaches, supportive administration, and incredible community we have at Rome High School. Our success is the result of a team effort, and I am fortunate to work alongside so many people who are committed to providing great opportunities for our students. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together and excited about the future of Rome High School athletics.”
“Coach Boden is a tremendous advocate for our students and coaches,” Rome City Schools Superintendent Dr. Eric L. Holland said. “His leadership has helped strengthen our athletic programs and create positive experiences for student-athletes across Rome High School. We are proud to see him recognized by his peers with this well-deserved honor.”
The GHSA Athletic Director of the Year program recognizes professionals who demonstrate exceptional leadership, organizational skills, and dedication to advancing high school athletics while supporting regional cooperation and competition.
