Media release from Rome, GA City Schools:
Rome High School has named Julian Barfield as its new head girls basketball coach. Coach Barfield brings nearly two decades of experience in education and a proven record of success.
Barfield most recently served as the head girls basketball coach at Milton High School, where he led the Eagles to three region championships, an Elite Eight appearance, and a Final Four appearance.
“I am incredibly honored and grateful for the opportunity to lead the Rome High School girls basketball program. I want to sincerely thank Principal Dr. Christy Epps, Athletic Director Chris Boden, and District Athletic Director John Reid for believing in my vision and entrusting me with this opportunity. My family and I are excited to become part of the Rome community,” Coach Barfield said.
Throughout his coaching career, he has helped develop numerous high-level student-athletes. He has assisted more than 50 players in earning opportunities to play at the NCAA Division I level and has coached two McDonald’s All-Americans.
In addition to his success on the court, Barfield has spent 19 years as an educator. He holds a master’s degree in special education with a concentration in reading from Brenau University.
“We are excited to welcome Coach Barfield to Rome High School,” Principal Dr. Christy Epps said. “His track record of building successful programs, developing student-athletes, and emphasizing character, accountability, and academic success made him an outstanding choice to lead our girls basketball program. We believe his experience and vision will have a tremendous impact on our student-athletes and the future of Lady Wolves basketball.”
Barfield has built his coaching philosophy around player development, discipline, accountability, and creating a positive, competitive culture while helping student-athletes grow both on and off the court. His experience includes leadership roles at Milton High School, Buford High School, and Parkview High School, as well as work with nationally recognized AAU programs.
“My goal is to build a program that our players, school, and community can be proud of — one founded on hard work, accountability, discipline, and a commitment to excellence both in the classroom and on the court. We will strive to develop outstanding basketball players, but more importantly, young women of character who are prepared for success long after their playing days are over,” Coach Barfield said. “I look forward to building meaningful relationships with our players, families, faculty, and community. I can’t wait to get to work. Go Wolves!”
