Media release from AAA – The Auto Club Group:
ATLANTA (June 29, 2026) Gas prices are declining nationwide just ahead of the Fourth of July travel surge, offering welcome relief for drivers. In Georgia, pump prices have steadily eased in recent weeks, even as demand remains strong amid ongoing inflation, reflecting a broader trend across the Southeast where prices remain below the national average. Drivers are encouraged to stay vigilant, compare prices, and take advantage of savings opportunities at the pump.
“Georgia drivers are seeing welcome relief at the pump as lower crude oil prices continue to help keep gasoline costs in check,” said Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “While these lower prices are good news for holiday travelers, drivers should keep in mind that demand typically increases as we get closer to the Fourth of July. If you’re planning to travel, consider filling up sooner rather than later, as prices could edge higher ahead of the holiday.”
Compared to recent benchmarks:
- 7 cents lower than last week
- 38 cents lower than last month
- 64 cents higher than this time last year
For those filling up a standard 15-gallon tank of regular gasoline, the cost is approximately $53.70.
National Average Falls 7 Cents from Last Week
Drivers are getting a break at the pump as the summer travel season heats up. For the first time since March 30, the national average for a gallon of regular gas has fallen to $3.86, marking nearly four straight weeks of declines. Lower crude oil prices, supported talks to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, are helping drive the drop. The relief comes as millions of Americans prepare to hit the road for Independence Day in record numbers starting next weekend.
