Joint media release from the Rome-Floyd Fire Department and Floyd County Police Department:
Armuchee, GA – The Rome-Floyd Fire Department and the Floyd County Police Department are jointly releasing information regarding a drowning incident that occurred in the area of Armuchee Park.
At approximately 8:30 PM on June 29, 2026, emergency units from both agencies were dispatched to the area of Armuchee Park following reports of an individual in distress in the water. Upon arrival, first responders initiated coordinated search and rescue operations. Despite prompt and extensive efforts, the individual was located unresponsive and was later pronounced deceased. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending family notification. This incident remains under investigation by the Floyd County Police Department, with support from the Rome-Floyd Fire Department. Both agencies extend their deepest condolences to the family and loved ones affected by this tragedy.
Rome-Floyd Fire Department Statement:
Fire department personnel performed search and rescue operations through kayaks and in water searching. Unfortunately, a 14 year old drowning victim was recovered. The body was turned over to the Floyd County Coroner’s Office. The Floyd County Coroner’s Office and the Floyd County Police Department began a death investigation. We will update with new information when it becomes available and is appropriate for release.

Multiple units from the Floyd County Police Department responded to assist Rome Floyd Fire with rescue and recovery efforts. Once the victim was recovered, the Floyd County Police Department initiated a death investigation, which is ongoing.
