The Atlanta Braves opened a seven-game homestand with a loss to the St. Louis Cardinals by 5-3 on Tuesday night in the first meeting of a three-game set at Truist Park.
The Braves scored the first run of the evening on a sac fly from Ozzie Albies in the bottom of the third inning. However, the Cardinals surged ahead with four runs in the top of the fourth on a solo home run from Nelson Velazquez and a three-run homer by Nathan Church. They made it 5-1 on a sac fly from Blaze Jordan in the sixth. Albies drove in another run for the Braves with an RBI single in the seventh. Mauricio Dubon scored the Braves’ third and final run of the night on a wild pitch in the eighth.
Martin Perez was charged with the loss for Atlanta after giving up four runs and five hits, walking three, and striking out one over five innings. Matthew Liberatore was credited with the win and Riley O’Brien picked up the save for St. Louis.
The National League East-leading Braves are now 49-34 on the 2026 regular season. The Cardinals in are in third place of the NL Central at 44-38.
