It was a big milestone worthy of big celebrations. The United States of America celebrated its 250th birthday on Saturday, July 4, 2026 with much fanfare across the nation.
Local festivities included the 42nd annual Cave Spring 4th of July Parade. Patriotic trailers, ATVs, horses, and even a boat traversed the town’s square before hundreds of spectators that lined the streets.
Christa Jackson, organizer, says that the parade has grown a lot since 1985, when it was first organized as a way to keep her children occupied on a rainy 4th of July. Her family is still very involved and grateful that the community has joined in the fun over the years.
Speaking of rainy days, the thunderstorms that swept through the area this past Friday evening led to cooler temperatures on the morning of this year’s parade – much cooler than in the past couple of years.
Winnifred Morrow and Terry Caldwell were the Grand Marshals of the 2026 Cave Spring 4th of July Parade. She donned the “Vote Dress”, while he wore the “Vote Sash”. Each of the garments were created with materials from the old Lindale Mill. On the day before the parade, organizers shared a history of the “Vote Dress” on Facebook. That post was seen by Restoration Lindale, Inc. President Tim Reynolds, who was inspired to fire up the old Lindale fire truck and take it for a spin in Cave Spring’s parade. He says that it was great for one small community to support another small community. Plus, the kids love the fire truck!
