Rome High School football fans will have the opportunity to kick off the 2026 season while making a difference in the lives of Rome High students during the inaugural Wolfpack Gives Back Kickoff Scrimmage on Thursday, Aug. 6, at Barron Stadium.
The event replaces the longtime Soap Game, where fans traditionally donated soap, sports drinks, and other items to support the football program. Under new Head Coach Bill Stewart, the tradition has been reimagined to benefit the Rome High School Food Pantry, helping provide food and snacks for students throughout the school year.
Admission is a donation of nonperishable food items or a $5 contribution. All food and monetary donations will go directly to the Rome High School Food Pantry.
“I can’t wait for our community to get its first look at our teams this season,” Stewart said. “Our players have worked incredibly hard throughout the summer, and this is a great opportunity to showcase that work while also supporting fellow students. Rome has always supported its football program in incredible ways, and we wanted to build on that tradition by creating an event that brings our community together while giving back to students who may need a helping hand. That’s what being part of the Wolfpack is all about.”
The Rome High School Food Pantry serves students throughout the school year by providing food and other essentials to those in need. Fans are encouraged to donate items that are especially popular with teenagers, including Easy Mac cups, ramen noodles, granola bars, Pop-Tarts, fruit snacks, applesauce pouches, peanut butter crackers, microwave popcorn and cereal.
The evening’s schedule includes:
- 5 p.m. – Sixth Grade vs. Seventh Grade
- 5:30 p.m. – Eighth Grade vs. Ninth Grade
- 6 p.m. – Varsity Scrimmage
Coach Stewart hopes the Wolfpack Gives Back Kickoff Scrimmage becomes an annual tradition that celebrates both Rome football and the generosity of the community.
“Football has always brought people together in Rome,” Stewart said. “If we can kick off a new season while helping fill our food pantry and supporting our students, then everyone wins. We hope our fans will come out, enjoy a great night of football, and help us make a difference in the lives of Rome High students.”
Fans are encouraged to arrive early, cheer on the Wolves, and help stock the Rome High School Food Pantry. Together, the Wolfpack can make an impact both on the field and in the community.
This is the first #WolfPackGivesBack opportunity this year. Save the date for another opportunity to give back during another event set for Homecoming Week (Sept. 28-Oct.2).
