The dog days of August are now upon us. The Georgia Department of Public Health’s Northwest Health District encourages members of the community to stay safe amid the continuing Summer heat.
Dr. Gary Voccio, Health Director, says that all outdoor activities should be conducted in the early morning or late evening, not during the heat of the day. Also, drink plenty of water.
Some other ways to beat the heat include wearing light-colored, loose-fitting clothes and avoiding heavy foods.
The Summer heat will be followed by Fall and flu season. Dr. Voccio states that now is an ideal time for people to get vaccinated against the flu and other respiratory diseases, particularly the elderly and very young individuals.
Dr. Voccio also encourages parents to ensure that their kids are up-to-date on their vaccines for this new school year.
