Scores. Coaches. Reaction. Everything you need after the final whistle.
Friday nights have long been a big part of WLAQ’s local sports coverage. This season, that tradition continues with a new name, a new format and an expanded focus.
Friday Night Final presented by Rome Orthopaedic Center debuts this Friday, bringing together scores, coach interviews, reports from around the area, special features and plenty of conversation about the night in high school football.
The show will air every Friday night from 10:00–11:30 p.m.
Matt Davis and Ian Griffin will host Friday Night Final, building on 18 years of covering local high school sports together. After spending years calling games from the broadcast booth, Davis and Griffin will now take a wider look at Friday night football across Rome and Northwest Georgia.
“We’ve spent a lot of Friday nights through the years focused on one game from the broadcast booth,” Davis said. “Friday Night Final gives us a chance to widen that focus and talk about what’s happening all over the area. We want it to be a place where fans can come after the games to find out what happened and continue the Friday night conversation.”
“Over the last 18 years of covering local sports together, Matt and I have been fortunate to build relationships with so many good people who care about high school football,” Griffin said. “Their insight will help make this show special, and we look forward to providing a one-stop shop for postgame coverage on Friday nights.”
Throughout the night, WLAQ will connect with coaches, broadcasters and correspondents from around the area for firsthand reports, reaction and insight into the games and performances that stood out.
The show will also feature several weekly segments designed to tell more of the stories surrounding high school football.
FCA Beyond the Game, presented by Rome Area FCA and supported by Mathis Trailers and Equipment Sales, will look beyond wins and losses to highlight the people, stories and values that make high school athletics special.
The Final Verdict, sponsored by Cromartie Law, will help close out the show each week with a look back at the biggest stories, performances and takeaways from the night in local high school football.
Fans will have multiple ways to experience Friday Night Final. The show will air live on WLAQ 96.9 FM and 1410 AM, while a video livestream on Facebook and YouTube will add another dimension to the program and give fans a chance to watch, follow along and join the conversation.
