AAA: Georgia Gas Prices Finally Reverse Course After Weeks of Increase

ATLANTA (August 31, 2026) Georgia drivers are getting some relief at the pump. After weeks of rising prices, the state average for regular gasoline has dropped to $3.78 per gallon (subject to change overnight). Lower gasoline demand and strong refinery production have helped boost fuel supplies and ease prices.

“After weeks of increases, Georgians are finally getting some relief at the pumps,” said Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “The recent decline is encouraging, but drivers shouldn’t get comfortable just yet. Crude oil prices remain elevated, and continued geopolitical uncertainty could quickly put upward pressure on gasoline prices. For now, drivers can take advantage of the lower prices while they last.”

Compared to recent benchmarks:

• 3 cents lower than last week
• 11 cents lower than last month
• 88 cents higher than last year

For those filling up a standard 15-gallon tank of regular gasoline, the cost is approximately $56.70.

Pump Prices Remain Stubbornly High Nationwide

The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline dipped just 2 cents this week to $4.07 (subject to change overnight), but overall price relief remains limited. Crude oil prices continue to hover around $80 per barrel amid ongoing volatility in the Strait of Hormuz. As a result, the national average has remained above $4 per gallon every day in August, putting the month on track to become the most expensive August on record for gas prices, surpassing the previous record set in 2022.

Regional Prices:

The most expensive metro markets in Georgia are Hinesville-Fort Stewart ($3.83), Savannah ($3.81), and Atlanta ($3.79).

The least expensive metro markets in Georgia are Dalton ($3.70), Rome ($3.69), and Albany ($3.67).
