The Rome-Floyd Fire Department invites members of the community to the 9/11 Commemorative Service set for Friday, September 11th at 8:45 am at the Firefighters Memorial Plaza behind City Hall in downtown Rome.
Twenty-five years have passed since the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the U.S.A. Shasta Farrer, Life and Fire Safety Educator, says that the lives lost in the attacks will be honored during the local service with music, guest speakers, and more. One of those speakers was close to the Pentagon when it was struck by a hijacked plane on 9/11.
Farrer says that next Friday’s service will last about an hour.
There will be a wreath-laying and even a special fly-over at the service, adds Farrer. The Exchange Club of Rome will give flags to attendees. Seating will be limited.
It seems like the tragic events of 9/11 occurred only yesterday, according to Farrer, who was a freshman in college at that time.
A live stream of the 9/11 Commemorative Service in downtown Rome will be posted on the Rome-Floyd Fire Department and City of Rome, GA Facebook pages for the benefit of those unable to attend in person.
A September 11th Service will be held in Cave Spring next Friday at 11 am. All attendees should gather at Veterans Memorial Plaza near the gazebo.
