The Atlanta Braves opened a six-game homestand with a loss to the Tampa Bay Rays by 7-1 on Tuesday night in the first meeting of a three-game set at Truist Park.
The Rays got on the board with a solo home run from Junior Caminero in the top of the first. The Braves tied the game in the bottom of that inning with an RBI single by Drake Baldwin. However, the Rays surged ahead with three runs in the third to include a two-run homer by Liam Hicks. Yandy Diaz and Richie Palacios also homered in the eighth and ninth, respectively.
AJ Smith-Shawver was charged with the loss for Atlanta after giving up four runs and five hits, walking two, and striking out three through three and one-third innings. Freddy Peralta got the win for Tampa Bay.
The National League East-leading Braves are now 85-60 on the 2026 regular season, while the American League East-leading Rays are 86-58. The teams will meet again tonight at 7:15 pm.
