The Atlanta Braves lost to the Tampa Bay Rays by 7-2 on Wednesday night in the middle outing of a three-game interleague set at Truist Park. It allowed Tampa Bay to take the series.
The Braves netted just three hits in the effort. That included a solo home run by Drake Baldwin to begin the bottom of the fourth inning. Matt Olson drove in the home team’s second and final run of the night with a sac fly in the sixth.
The Rays opened up the scoring with three runs in the top of the second on a solo home run by Victor Mesa Jr and a two-run single by Jorge Mateo. They added three more during the fourth with RBI singles from Cedric Mullins and Richie Palacios, along with a sac fly from Yandy Diaz. Liam Hicks drove in their seventh and final run of the night with an RBI single in the seventh.
Reynaldo Lopez was charged with the loss for Atlanta in his return from the injured list after giving up six runs and seven hits, walking three, and striking out five through four and two-third innings. Griffin Jax picked up the win for Tampa Bay.
The National League East-leading Braves are now 85-61 on the 2026 regular season. The American League East-leading Rays are 87-58. The teams will meet in their series finale this afternoon.
