Georgia Highlands College (GHC) is proud to announce the launch of a new Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program at its Cartersville site, expanding access to high-quality nursing education and addressing Georgia’s growing need for highly trained registered nurses. The Traditional BSN Program will launch in the spring 2027 semester.
The new 4-year BSN program is designed to prepare graduates with the clinical expertise, leadership skills and evidence-based practice knowledge required to meet the evolving healthcare needs of Northwest Georgia and surrounding communities. The program aligns with statewide efforts to strengthen Georgia’s healthcare workforce amid a well-documented nursing shortage affecting hospitals, clinics and community health settings.
“The 4-year traditional BSN program expands access to high quality nursing education, supports our community health partners and creates a sustainable pipeline of compassionate professionals committed to serving Northwest Georgia,” Assistant Vice Provost for the Atrium Health Floyd School of Health Sciences Lisa Jellum said. “Ultimately, this initiative reflects our commitment to meeting critical workforce needs while improving health outcomes and economic vitality across the community.”
The BSN program will build upon the college’s strong foundation in nursing education and its commitment to student success, academic excellence and community engagement. Graduates will be prepared to deliver high-quality patient care, pursue leadership roles and contribute meaningfully to healthcare outcomes across the region.
This program has been developed with the support and guidance of the University System of Georgia (USG) and will operate in accordance with standards set forth by the Georgia Board of Nursing, ensuring rigorous academic and clinical preparation consistent with state and national expectations.
“The BSN program at the Cartersville site expands access to nursing education that truly transforms lives — preparing students to serve, lead, and strengthen healthcare in our communities,” Provost and Chief Academic Officer Sarah Coakley said.
