ATLANTA (September 21, 2026) Georgia drivers continue to feel the pinch at the pump as gas prices remain elevated, with no clear sign yet of when meaningful relief may arrive. The state average now stands at $4.09 per gallon (subject to change overnight), which is 40 cents below Georgia’s record high of $4.49 per gallon for regular unleaded, set in June 2022.
“Georgia drivers are continuing to feel the strain of higher fuel costs, with pump prices holding above $4 a gallon, taking a significant bite out of household budgets,” said Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “Until market conditions improve, drivers should expect ongoing volatility and look for ways to stretch their fuel dollars, such as combining errands, reducing unnecessary trips, and using fuel-saving driving habits.”
Compared to recent benchmarks:
- 8 cents higher than last week
- 27 cents higher than last month
- $1.18 higher than last year
For those filling up a standard 15-gallon tank of regular gasoline, the cost is approximately $61.35.
Pain at the Pump Persists Nationwide
The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline jumped 16 cents from last week to $4.47, putting pump prices more than $1 higher than they were a year ago. Elevated crude oil prices, averaging around $100 per barrel, continue to drive fuel costs higher. The national average has climbed back to levels seen earlier this spring and is now nearing this year’s high of $4.56 per gallon, reached on May 21. The all-time record remains $5.01 per gallon, set on June 14, 2022.

The most expensive metro markets in Georgia are Savannah ($4.17), Augusta-Aiken ($4.13), and Macon ($4.12).
The least expensive metro markets in Georgia are Athens ($4.05), Warner Robins ($4.03), and Valdosta ($4.01).
