At their Tuesday, September 22 meeting, the Floyd County Board of Commissioners approved a $138,000 contract for SPLOST funded sidewalk and accessibility improvements in Lindale during its Sept. 22 meeting, along with road management services, grant applications, and other county business.
The board awarded Glenn Contractors LLC the bid for demolition and installation of sidewalks and accessible ramps using 2017 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax funds. The project requires no budget change and leaves $107,115 available for potential additional sidewalk projects.
Commissioners also awarded a bid to Infrahub for pavement and sign asset management services for Public Works in the amount of $31,120. The work will be paid for through the existing budget.
The board authorized Public Works to apply for a $210,990 Tire Products Grant from the Georgia Environmental Protection Division. The proposed $525,040 project would combine the requested grant with $314,050 from the 2027 Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant (LMIG) project list. Budget changes would return to the board if the grant is awarded and presented for acceptance.
Commissioners authorized the Emergency Management Agency to apply for $6,500 from the 2026 Georgia Power Foundation Program for equipment improvements. The board also approved equal revenue and expense adjustments of $6,500 each, with no net budget effect.
The board also approved a memorandum of understanding with the City of Rome Police Department for the 2026 JAG Grant, including equal revenue and expense adjustments of $16,750 each, with no net budget effect.
In land use and road actions, commissioners approved rezoning property at 7050 Cave Spring Road SW in Cave Spring from Suburban Residential to Agricultural Residential. The request, File Z26-07-03, concerns tax parcel E18021. The board also adopted an ordinance closing an unopened area of right of way on Sunset Drive SE and approved a resolution regarding closure of a portion of Lindsey Road.
In other business, Stanley Strack was appointed to his first term on the Rome Floyd Planning Commission, expiring Sept. 30, 2031.
