AAA: Georgia Drivers Still Waiting for Relief at the Pump

ATLANTA (September 28, 2026) Georgia drivers continue to feel the strain of higher fuel costs, with elevated pump prices making it more expensive to fill up and stay on budget. The state average currently stands at $4.19 per gallon (subject to change overnight), which is 30 cents below Georgia’s record high of $4.49 per gallon, reached in June 2022. While prices remain below that historic peak, many drivers are still waiting for meaningful relief at the pump.

“Gas prices remain a challenge for Georgia families, especially for those who depend on their vehicles for work, school, and daily activities,” said Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “With the state average still above $4 per gallon, many drivers are looking for ways to make every tank go further. Simple steps like reducing aggressive driving, keeping tires properly inflated, and limiting extra trips can help stretch fuel dollars.”

Compared to recent benchmarks:

• 10 cents higher than last week
• 39 cents higher than last month
• $1.31 higher than last year

For those filling up a standard 15-gallon tank of regular gasoline, the cost is approximately $62.85.

National Gas Prices Buck Seasonal Trends

The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline remains unchanged from last week at $4.47, leaving drivers paying more than $1 per gallon higher than they were a year ago. Typically, the start of autumn brings lower gas prices, but lingering volatility in the Strait of Hormuz and the high cost of crude oil are driving up pump prices. This month is on track to set a new September record.

Regional Prices:

The most expensive metro markets in Georgia are Athens ($4.24), Atlanta ($4.23), and Gainesville ($4.22).

The least expensive metro markets in Georgia are Catoosa-Dade-Walker ($4.09), Valdosta ($4.08), and Albany ($4.07).
