The Georgia 4-H Food Showcase saw an outstanding performance from local 4-H members Tabitha Smith, Finley Smith, and Kylan Ferrell. Food Showcase is a one-day event featuring four separate contests for Junior and Senior 4-H youth: Food Challenge, Egg Chef, Chicken BBQ, and Turkey BBQ. The young chefs demonstrated exceptional culinary skills and creativity, earning honors in their respective categories. This year, 84 youth from 16 counties competed in the various events at Rock Eagle 4-H Center.
4-H members Tabitha Smith, Finley Smith, and Kylan Ferrell, secured an impressive 3rd place finish in the Egg Chef State Contest. The team was coached by Certified 4-H Volunteer Amy Smith. The Georgia 4-H Egg Chef Contest is a culinary competition in which youth use eggs as the featured ingredient in a prepared dish. Participants create a variety of recipes, including appetizers, salads, main dishes, and desserts. The contest is designed to develop participants’ nutritional knowledge, cooking skills, and presentation abilities.
Contestants must prepare their dish and then present a demonstration to judges, explaining the preparation process, nutritional value, and additional information about eggs. The Floyd 4-H Team created and presented Kawaii Japanese Soufflé Pancakes, earning praise for both their creativity and presentation.
The team also took on a new challenge this year by competing in the Food Challenge Contest. Similar to the popular television show Chopped, teams are presented with surprise ingredients that must be incorporated into their dishes. Participants are tasked with preparing a dish and delivering a presentation that highlights its nutritional value, preparation techniques, and overall appeal.
The Georgia 4-H Food Showcase is an annual event that brings together young chefs from across the state to compete in a variety of culinary categories. The event provides participants with opportunities to strengthen their cooking skills, expand their knowledge of nutrition, develop teamwork and communication skills, and gain valuable experience in a competitive environment.
