Floyd County’s Coroner Gene Proctor has confirmed that a 13-year-old boy died on Tuesday of respiratory failure due to COVID-19. He was discovered not breathing in the early morning hours by his father, who rushed him to the hospital. The boy, who was a student at Coosa High School, was pronounced dead at 5:55 am.

In Floyd County, 41 percent of residents have had at least a dose, while 35 percent are fully vaccinated.
