The Atlanta Braves fell to the Philadelphia Phillies 4-1 on Thursday evening in the finale of a four-game National League East series at Truist Park, which resulted in a 2-2 split in the series.
Kyle Wright was charged with the loss for Atlanta after giving up three runs and three hits, walking two, and striking out five in six and two-third innings of work. Aaron Nola picked up the win for Philadelphia after almost pitching a complete game.
The Phillies got on the board with a solo home run from JT Realmuto during the top of the third inning. They added to that lead on a two-run double from Odubel Herrera in the seventh and an RBI double by Nick Castellanos in the eighth. Matt Olson scored the Braves’ lone run of the evening on a wild pitch by Corey Knebel in the bottom of the ninth.
Atlanta is again tied up with Philadelphia for second place in the NL East as each team has a record of 21-24 and is seven and a half games back from the division-leading New York Mets.
The Braves will continue their current seven-game homestand with a three-game NL East set versus the Miami Marlins over the weekend. First pitch of tonight’s opener is slated for 7:20 pm. Listen on WLAQ 1410 AM/96.9 FM; air time is 6:05 pm.
And in a minor league update, the Rome Braves were defeated by the Hudson Valley Renegades 8-5 on Thursday night in the third outing of a six-game set up in New York. Hudson Valley now leads the series by 2-1. The teams will meet again tonight at 7:05 pm.
