Media release from AAA – The Auto Club Group:
ATLANTA (April 20, 2026) Georgia drivers are continuing to find relief at the pump this week as gas prices trend lower statewide. The steady decline comes despite ongoing global tensions, providing a welcome sense of stability for motorists. Much of this relief is supported by the continued suspension of Georgia’s state gas tax, which has helped offset potential increases and keep fuel costs down. On average, drivers are paying $3.61 per gallon for regular gasoline, though prices may continue to fluctuate in the coming weeks as global conditions evolve.
“Gas prices continue to move with the ups and downs of the global market, but for now, Georgia drivers are seeing some welcome stability at the pump,” said Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “With prices always subject to change, it’s smart for drivers to take advantage of fuel‑saving strategies whenever they can.”
Compared to recent benchmarks:
- 10 cents lower than last week
- 15 cents lower than last month
- 68 cents higher than this time last year
For those filling up a standard 15-gallon tank of regular gasoline, the cost is approximately $54.15.
National: Prices Ease, but Global Uncertainty Lingers
The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline decreased by 8 cents this week to $4.04. As global tensions continue to influence the oil market and keep prices in flux. Following last week’s announcement of a two‑week ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran, crude oil prices have remained below $100 per barrel, helping prevent sharper swings at the pump. However, activity through the Strait of Hormuz remains lower than usual as regional tensions linger and negotiations continue, meaning energy markets and gas prices could continue to shift.
Electric:
The national average per kilowatt hour of electricity at a public EV charging station remained the same this past week at 41 cents. Drivers can plan ahead by checking prices along their route with AAA’s TripTik Travel Planner.
Regional Prices:
The most expensive metro markets in Georgia are Valdosta ($3.69), Atlanta ($3.64), and Gainesville ($3.60).
The least expensive metro markets in Georgia are Albany ($3.50), Hinesville-Fort Stewart ($3.48), and Dalton ($3.45).
