The City of Rome is excited to announce contests, and community activities in celebration of Georgia Cities Week, taking place April 20–25, 2026. Sponsored by the Georgia Municipal Association, this year’s theme, “Love Your City,” highlights the vital role local governments play in enhancing quality of life and fostering community pride. Georgia Cities Week is an opportunity to celebrate what makes Rome special—our people, our history, and the services that keep our city running every day.
Throughout the week, residents are invited to participate in a variety of free events, performances, and interactive experiences.
Community Events Lineup
During Georgia Cities Week we celebrate all the departments who curate and support educational, cultural, and recreational opportunities for our citizens. Provided is a dynamic schedule of free, family-friendly events:
- Monday, April 20, 7 PM
Rome Youth Symphony Spring Concert
Rome City Auditorium
Featuring selections from West Side Story, Van Morrison, Led Zeppelin, and more. - Thursday, April 23, 7 PM
Ain’t Nothing But the Blues
Rome City Auditorium
Presented by the Clock Tower Ensemble with an evening of big band jazz. - Saturday, April 25
A full day of events across the city, including:- World Tai Chi Day (10 AM, Rotary Plaza behind The Forum)
- ROFLO Festival (10 AM – 4 PM, Downtown Rome) featuring art, music, and food
- Rome-Floyd ECO Center – Open House Saturday (10 AM – 2 PM) with live wildlife exhibits
- TRED Walk & Talk (9 AM, Mount Berry Trailhead) focused on health and safety
Contests and Community Engagement
Residents will have multiple opportunities to participate and win prizes throughout the week. Residents are encouraged to follow city social media or visit the city website for contest details throughout the week:
- Rome Clocktower Tour Ticket Giveaway — Enter for a chance to win a pair of tour tickets.
- City Auditorium Ticket Giveaway — Enter for a chance to win a pair of tickets to see Rhonda Vincent
- The Forum Ticket Giveaways— Enter for a chance to win a pair of tickets to see KC and the Sunshine Band.
Student Writing Contest
The Rome Floyd Planning Department in partnership with the Floyd County Library, is hosting a writing contest called, “Unearth the Story of Floyd County”. Students in grades 5–12 across Rome and Floyd County are invited to submit original poems or short stories (up to two pages) inspired by local historic sites or meaningful places in the community. The contest celebrates local history and creativity as part of Historic Preservation Month and America250. Submissions will be accepted April 20 through May 15, 2026, with winning entries recognized through prizes, a public display at the library, and a community voting period. Celebrating Community and Civic Pride
