The Atlanta Braves beat the Washington Nationals by 9-4 on Monday night in the first meeting of a four-game National League East set at Nationals Park in Washington DC. That allowed the Braves to extend their current winning streak to six straight games.
The Nationals opened the scoring with a two-run single from Jacob Young in the bottom of the first inning. Matt Olson hit a two-run homer for the Braves to tie it up at 2-2 in the top of the fourth.
Daylen Lile began the bottom of that inning with a home run to put DC on top. The Braves took a 4-3 lead on a two-run double from Drake Baldwin in the top of the sixth. They went on to score three more runs in that inning, plus two more in the ninth. Olson drove in three of their nine runs.
Bryce Elder was Atlanta’s winning pitcher. He gave up four runs and three hits, walked two, and struck out six over six and two-third innings of work. Jake Irvin took the loss for DC.
Ronald Acuna Jr. was hit by a pair of pitches and exited the game early. His X-rays came back negative, and he is listed as day-to-day.
