From historic cemeteries to scenic river cruises and panoramic views, these experiences offer something for every history enthusiast. Ticket proceeds benefit local historic preservation efforts.

Where Romans Rest: Myrtle Hill Cemetery Tours

Explore the lives and legacies of Rome’s most notable citizens during the annual Where Romans Rest tours at Myrtle Hill Cemetery. Each year features a new selection of compelling stories, bringing local history to life in a meaningful and memorable way.
“Myrtle Hill Cemetery Tours are a wonderful opportunity for both locals and visitors to uncover the fascinating stories that shaped our community,” said tour coordinator Ann Hortman. “Each tour reveals a different facet of Rome’s past, making history accessible and engaging.”
Established in 1857, Myrtle Hill Cemetery is the final resting place of more than 20,000 individuals, including Civil War soldiers, prominent political figures, and Ellen Axson Wilson, wife of President Woodrow Wilson.Tickets are $10 per person. Ticket sales benefit the Myrtle Hill/Oak Hill Memorial Association.
Sulzbacher Roman Holiday Riverboat Tours
First Sunday of the Month: May to September
Time: 2:00 PM
Set sail on Rome’s own 40-passenger excursion boat for a relaxing and educational cruise along the Coosa River. Each tour has a different theme and highlights how the rivers have influenced Rome’s development over time. Departing from Heritage Park, this two-hour experience is ideal for all ages.
- May: River History Tour, Guided by local historian, Selena Tilly
- June: Cannons on Coosa Tour, Guided by local historian, Selena Tilly; reenactors recreate an actual 1860s skirmish on the Coosa River
- July: Wildlife & Biology Identification Tour, Guided by Jesse Demonbreun-Chapman, CRBI
- August: River History Tour, Guided by local historian, Selena Tilly
- September: Cannons on Coosa Tour, Guided by local historian, Selena Tilly; reenactors recreate an actual 1860s skirmish on the Coosa River

Rome Clocktower Public Tours
First Saturday of the Month: May, June, August, September & October
Time Slots: 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM
Climb 107 steps to the top of Rome’s iconic Clocktower for breathtaking 360-degree views of the city. Along the way, visitors can enjoy murals depicting Rome’s history from its founding to today.
Tickets are $10 per person. Ticket sales benefit the Clocktower Restoration Fund.
Downtown History Tours (Roman Chariots)
First Saturday of the Month: May, June, August, September & October
Take a guided ride through historic downtown Rome aboard the Roman Chariots. Each tour spotlights a different block and includes exclusive access to a featured historic building.
Led by local historian, Selena Tilly, these tours provide an in-depth look at the city’s architectural and cultural heritage.
Tickets are $10, with proceeds benefiting the Rome Area History Center.
