Floyd County voters cast ballots on Tuesday in Georgia’s General Primary and Nonpartisan Election. In races of local interest, challenger Shane Cowan beat incumbent Rhonda Wallace for Post 1 of the Floyd County Commission. The Republican faces no Democratic opposition in the November general election and will assume that post in January. Incumbent David Thornton, Republican, won his re-election bid to Post 4 and has no opposition from a Democrat this Fall. Cleve Jackson won the Republican bid for Post 5 and will face Democrat Shonna Bailey in November.
Also on Tuesday, Todd Wheeler was elected to Floyd County Schools Board of Education, District 4.
Katie Dempsey won the Republican party’s nod for re-election to Georgia House of Representatives, District 13 and will run against Democrat Vincent Mendes in the general election.
Clay Fuller received the most votes among Floyd County’s Republican voters for U.S. House of Representatives, District 14.
Several statewide offices appeared on the ballot in this election, including Georgia’s next Governor.
