The Atlanta Braves fell to the New York Mets by 8-1 on Sunday in the finale of a three-game National League East set in New York. It allowed the Mets to take the weekend series by 2-1.
The Braves struck first with a sac fly by Dominic Smith that drove Michael Harris II to home plate in the top of the first inning. However, the Mets struck back with four runs in the bottom of that inning. They added two more in the fifth on a pair of home runs from AJ Ewing and Marcus Semien and two more in the eighth on an RBI single by Juan Soto.
Bryce Elder was charged with the loss for Atlanta after giving up six runs and 10 hits, walking two, and striking out two in four innings. Freddy Peralta got the win for New York.
The Braves remain atop the NL East with an MLB-best record of 46-25 for the 2026 regular season. They have a scheduled off-day today and will return to Truist Park in Atlanta on Tuesday night to open up a six-game homestand with the first of three games versus the San Francisco Giants.
