Media release from Georgia Highlands College:
Georgia Highlands College (GHC) invites students, employees, alumni, families, and community members to join a special celebration on Friday, June 26, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Floyd Campus in Rome as the college marks three significant milestones: honoring accepted students, celebrating GHC’s impact on the community, and commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States of America.
The event will feature a cookout, an apple pie contest, family-friendly activities, and a patriotic photo opportunity in front of the “World’s Largest American Flag.”
The celebration comes as Georgia Highlands College reaches a historic milestone of having served more than 250,000 community members since its founding. In recognition of the occasion, GHC has received proclamations and letters of commendation from cities throughout its service area, members of the Georgia General Assembly, and a special letter from Governor Brian Kemp.
The free event is open to the public and will include:
- Patriotic Photo Opportunity – Visitors can take family photos in front of the “World’s Largest American Flag”
- Community Cookout – Classic summer cookout hotdogs will be served
- Apple Pie Contest – Bakers from across the college are invited to compete for top honors with both traditional and creative apple-inspired desserts
- Music, Games, and Family Activities – Entertainment and activities for guests of all ages
- Community Impact Showcase – Interactive displays highlighting how Georgia Highlands College continues to transform lives, strengthen communities, and serve as a workforce and economic development partner throughout Northwest Georgia
Guests are encouraged to embrace the patriotic spirit of the day by wearing red, white, and blue attire.
The event also serves as a celebration of GHC’s accepted students as they prepare to begin their college journey this fall, reinforcing the college’s commitment to access, student success, and community impact.
