Summer time means pool days, beach trips, and time on the lake. The Rome-Floyd Fire Department exhorts members of the community to stay safe on the water!
Shasta Farrer, Life and Fire Safety Educator, says that, for starters, it is wise to know how to swim.
Someone always needs to keep an eye on swimmers, especially kids. Farrer recommends that groups of swimmers select a ‘designated water watcher’ for five minute periods of time.
If you have a swimming pool, make sure its drain is working properly, urges Linda Patty, Life and Fire Safety Educator. She says that many things can get caught in that drain.
Adults are advised to warn children to stay away from pool drains to prevent a potential disaster.
Here are some other tips to stay safe in the water this summer – wear brightly colored swimsuits, rest when tired, and never mix alcohol with swimming.
