Summer heat can be deadly. The Rome-Floyd Fire Department is urging the public to do its part to prevent hot car deaths.
Linda Patty, Life and Fire Safety Educator, says that sometimes someone gets locked in a hot car on accident, and no tragedy occurs….
However, sometimes a tragedy does occur. It does not take long for a car to turn into an oven, according to Shasta Farrer, Life and Fire Safety Educator. She says that kids’ organs can begin to shut down at 104 degrees Fahrenheit.
Always check the back seat before exiting a car to make sure no passengers will be left unattended, states Farrer, who recommends putting essential items in the back seat to be certain that you open that back door.
Temperatures inside a car can hit 120-150 degrees Fahrenheit within minutes. A cracked window does nothing to stop that build up of heat.
