Summer continues in Northwest Georgia with hot temperatures and high humidity. The Floyd County Emergency Management Agency reminds area residents to continue to take the necessary steps to stay safe amid the heat of the season.
Tim Herrington, Floyd EMA Director, encourages the public to drink plenty of water and limit your time outdoors to the earlier or later part of the day. If you must go outside during the hottest time of the day, be sure to wear loose-fitting, lightweight clothing and a hat.
In addition to taking care of yourself, take care of outdoor pets. Herrington states that it is wise to ensure that pets have plenty of shade and water. And never, never leave pets – or humans – in hot cars.

Wednesday’s high temperatures are anticipated to be in the low 90s with heat index values as high as 98, according to the National Weather Service. Those temps may be slightly cooler to wrap up the week.
