The Atlanta Braves finished a six-game road trip with the split of a day-night doubleheader up in New York versus the Mets on Wednesday. The Mets took the opener by 3-2, and the Braves won the nightcap by 1-0.
Matt Olson led the charge offensively for the Braves. He hit a two-run homer that resulted in a 2-2 tie in the sixth inning of game one. The Mets broke that tie in the seventh and went on to win the opener.
Another highlight of that first meeting for Atlanta was the return of pitcher AJ Smith-Shawver from Tommy John surgery. It was his first major league start since late May 2025.
Olson also drove in the lone run of the night in game two for the Braves with an RBI single in the sixth.
Chris Sale struck out nine over six scoreless innings en route to the win for Atlanta in that second outing.
The National League East-leading Braves are now 63-45 on the 2026 regular season. They will begin a seven-game homestand this evening with the first of four division games versus the Washington Nationals. First pitch is slated for 7:15 pm at Truist Park.
