As a new school year begins, the Rome Police Department aims to refresh the public’s memory about an important Georgia traffic law pertaining to school buses.
According to an announcement on the RPD Facebook page –
When a school bus has its flashing red lights activated and the stop arm is extended, drivers must stop on two-lane roads, center turn lanes, and multi-lane roads that are not separated by a physical median. The only exception is when opposing traffic is divided by a physical median or barrier.
Under Addy’s Law, illegally passing a stopped school bus carries a minimum $1,000 fine and can result in up to 12 months in jail.
