This is the time of year that kids are beginning a new school year and perhaps seeking enriching extracurricular activities.
Scouting America’s Northwest Georgia Council seeks new scouts throughout the year, according to volunteer Kevin Payne, who adds that the council will visit local schools to recruit some potential scouts during this early part of the school year.
Scouting teaches valuable skills and how to apply those skills, according to Payne. He attests that participants get outside and learn that they can have fun without their devices.

Many scouts enjoyed camping adventures during the Summer of 2026. One group of scouts is now preparing for a week at the Philmont Scout Ranch out in New Mexico in Summer 2027; they are getting in shape and raising funds for a grueling mountain hike.
