Media release from the Rome Symphony Orchestra:
The Rome Symphony Orchestra (RSO) is proud to officially announce its 2026–27 season, “A Legacy in Sound,” featuring six performances that honor its long history in the Coosa Valley and reflect its commitment to artistry, innovation, education, and community. The RSO kicks off its 105th anniversary season with a special presentation of Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 2, Mozart’s Symphony No. 29, and Florence Price’s “Adoration,” on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 7 p.m.
“For more than a century, generations of musicians, patrons, volunteers, and community leaders have ensured that great music continues to thrive in Northwest Georgia. It is our privilege to carry that legacy forward,” said Jeffrey Dokken, Music Director and Conductor of the Rome Symphony Orchestra. “The RSO’s 105th season is a celebration of everything that makes live orchestral music unforgettable: thrilling virtuosity, beloved masterworks, cinematic storytelling, intimate holiday charm, and exciting contemporary voices.”
“A Legacy in Sound” includes an expansive program that bridges classical refinement, modern compositions, and cinematic storytelling. Fittingly, CV is the Roman numeral for 105 — a fun nod to the RSO’s 105 years in the Coosa Valley. From Mozart and Haydn to Shostakovich, Price, Copland, Stravinsky, and Britten; to living composers Robert Nath, Lauren Taylor, and legendary film composer Lee Holdridge, this season offers something for every listener, whether they are a lifelong classical music enthusiast or discovering the orchestra for the very first time.
Alongside timeless masterpieces and virtuosic performances, audiences will experience world-class guest artists, a U.S. premiere, emerging young talent, and meaningful collaborations, all culminating in a special outdoor musical theater performance.
The RSO’s season opener on Sept. 12 highlights Florence Price’s elegant and expressive “Adoration” on its 75th anniversary, alongside the sparkling, youthful genius of Mozart’s Symphony No. 29. Combining timeless lyricism, fiery virtuosity, and an unforgettable slow movement, the evening culminates in Shostakovich’s masterful Piano Concerto No. 2, featuring special guest soloist Russell Woo.
“It is the support and generosity of this community that allows us to present exceptional artists, expand our educational programs, champion new music, and continue enriching the region 105 years into our remarkable history,” added Dokken.
With the exception of the season’s final performance at Darlington School, each concert will take place at the Rome City Auditorium:
