The Atlanta Braves opened a six-game road trip with a loss to the Washington Nationals by 9-5 on Tuesday night in the first outing of a two-game National League East set at Nationals Park in Washington DC.
AJ Smith-Shawver was charged with the loss for Atlanta after giving up five runs and six hits, walking three, and striking out five over just four innings of work. Jared Simpson was credited with the win in relief for DC.
The Braves opened the scoring with a home run from Ozzie Albies during the top of the second. Michael Harris II had a two-run homer in the eighth.
Yohandy Morales homered to begin the bottom of the third and Brady House had a total of three RBIs towards the Nationals’ Tuesday night win.
The NL East-leading Braves are now 82-57 on the 2026 regular season, and the Nationals are in fourth place of that division with a record of 67-74 The teams will meet in their series finale today at 1:05 pm in DC.
