Summerville Main Street extends an invitation to step back in time and celebrate the flavors, traditions and fun of apple season during the Old-Fashioned Apple Festival, set for Saturday, September 5, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Summerville Depot.
This family-friendly event will offer a full day of old-fashioned fun. Festival-goers can browse a variety of fresh apples, apple products, handmade crafts and unique vendor offerings, while enjoying delicious food from local food vendors. Families will also find free facepainting by Summerville Main Street and kids’ activities to keep younger visitors entertained throughout the day.
Another feature for this event will be the Fried Apple Pie and Standard Apple Pie Contests, giving bakers an opportunity to showcase their favorite apple pie recipes and compete for Cash prizes, trophies and bragging rights. Pie entries will be accepted at the Main Street booth between 10:00 – 10:30 a.m. There is no registration fee to enter.
Adding to the festival atmosphere will be a live demonstration at 12:00 noon in the Depot Freight Room. Ms Mildred Cordle with give a demonstration on making Crockpot Apple Butter. The Muddy Creek Band, consisting of band members Gary Ball, Jerry Fordham and Bill Chambers will be performing a variety of country, acoustic rock and classic 70’s music for eventgoers as they shop, eat and enjoy the festivities.
One of the day’s special attractions will be the arrival of the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum’s Steam Engine 4501, bringing tourists into Summerville. Visitors will also have the opportunity to witness the historic Summerville Turntable in operation at approximately 12:45 p.m., a unique piece of local railroad history that continues to be a favorite attraction for visitors and residents alike.
“There’s something special about an old-fashioned festival that brings families and friends together,” said Summerville Main Street. “The Old-Fashioned Apple Festival celebrates our community, our local traditions and the simple pleasures of good food, music, shopping and spending the day together.”
Admission to the festival is free, and everyone is encouraged to come enjoy a fun-filled day in downtown Summerville.
