The Atlanta Braves lost their final home game of the 2026 regular season to the Cincinnati Reds by 7-6 on Thursday evening in the finale of a three-game set at Truist Park. That allowed Cincinnati to take the series.
Carlos Jorge had a home run for the Reds off of Tyler Mahle to lead off the game. The Braves scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning on a sac fly by Matt Olson, RBI double by Michael Harris II, RBI single from Ozzie Albies, and sac fly by Austin Riley. The Reds notched another run during the second on an RBI single by Matt McLain and surged ahead with three runs in the third on a solo home run from Elly De La Cruz and a two-run single from Eugenio Suarez. Austin Riley hit a game-tying homer for the Braves in the bottom of the third. The Braves took a 6-5 lead during the fifth inning on an RBI single by Mike Yastrzemski. However, Hector Rodriguez had a two-run homer that gave the Reds a 7-6 lead in the sixth. It was by that score that they went on to win the ballgame.
AJ Smith-Shawver was charged with the loss for Atlanta. Connor Phillips got the win and Emilio Pagan picked up the save for Cincinnati.
The National League East-champion Braves are now 93-66. They will wrap up the 2026 regular season this weekend with a three-game set in Miami, FL versus the Marlins. The first pitch of tonight’s series opener is scheduled for 7:10 pm. The outing will not be broadcast on WLAQ 1410 AM/96.9 FM due to our high school football coverage.
