The Northwest Georgia Charter Academy is settling into its inaugural school year.
Students and teachers have built a positive learning environment, according to Judy Taylor, Governing Board Member. She asserts that it is the next best thing to homeschooling for parents who seek an educational option in a safe setting.
Grades K-5 are being offered in this first school year. The 6th grade will be offered next school year with the additional grades to be added in subsequent years. Taylor anticipates that high school classes will be introduced by the 2030s.
Lydia Cox, board member, has a daughter in 4th grade at the academy. She says that she is grateful that her daughter is being sheltered from some of the things her older sons experienced at other schools.
The Northwest Georgia Charter Academy is open tuition-free to families in Rome, Floyd County, and Polk County. It is a public charter school approved by the Georgia Department of Education. Additional information is available online at www.nwgacharteracademy.org.
Classes are being taught on the Georgia School for the Deaf campus in Cave Spring.
