Public health officials hope that everyone ages six months and older will get a flu vaccine by the end of October.
Dr. Gary Voccio, the Health Director for the Georgia Department of Public Health’s 10-county Northwest Health District, says that vaccines are available through local health departments, healthcare providers, and pharmacies.
The flu can be very costly, states Dr. Voccio. Illness can lead to lost time at work/school and even loss of life.
Thousands of lives are lost because of the flu each year in the U.S., according to Dr. Voccio. Such fatalities can be prevented via vaccination.
Dr. Voccio also encourages vaccination against measles, as there has been an uptick in measles cases in Georgia this year.
