Media release from Berry College, Written by Public Relations Student Associate Bella Brown:
A SpaceX Astronaut and former USAF Thunderbird will speak at Berry College Oct. 29 for the Cecil B. Wright III Integrity in Leadership Lecture.
The lecture featuring Scott “Kidd” Poteet, will be at 6 p.m. in the Krannert Ballroom and is free and open to the public.
Poteet is a retired U.S. Air Force Lieutenant Colonel who served for 20 years, leading many missions around the world as a commander of the USAF-Thunderbird#4. He excelled in his military career while fostering a passion for endurance sports, competing in 16 Ironman triathlons, including the World Championships in Hawaii. Likewise, Poteet fulfilled his childhood dream by becoming an astronaut and flying on the historic five-day Polaris Dawn Earth-orbit mission aboard SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket.
In Poteet’s lecture, he will touch on topics such as embracing personal purposes, humility and overcoming early challenges. He will replay his own challenges, such as overcoming motion sickness and his fear of heights to achieve extraordinary goals. Poteet’s career led him to believe that anyone who embraces their God-given gifts can forge a path of purpose in the pursuit of greatness.
The Berry College Cecil B. Wright III Integrity in Leadership Lecture series brings distinguished leaders to Berry to share their experiences and insights with students, faculty and the community. The annual event honors the legacy of Wright and his commitment to ethical leadership.
