The Rome-Floyd Fire Department is ready to party like it’s 1976. A special event, themed “Peace, Love, & Fire Safety”, has been planned for Saturday, October 24th from 10 am until 6 pm at the Forum River Center in downtown Rome. It is intended to celebrate 50 years of the RFD’s Fire Prevention and Fire Education program.
Rome’s program was the first of its kind in the state of Georgia, says Linda Patty, Life and Fire Safety Educator.
Since the program was created in 1976, attendees of the October 24th event are invited to wear their best 1970s attire. The festivities will include music, carnival games, giveaways, and more.
Downtown Rome is reverting to 1976 to mark the occasion, enthuses Shasta Farrer, Life and Fire Safety Educator.
All community members are invited by Farrer and Patty to attend the RFD’s upcoming celebration at the Forum River Center, free of charge.
Throughout October, members of the Rome-Floyd Fire Department may be spotted wearing special celebration t-shirts. According to Farrer and Patty, the light blue shirts pay tribute to the uniforms donned by the department in 1976. The design on the back of the shirts features the department patch once featured on uniform sleeves.
